Écoles Des Écoles (or EDE) is a muti-disciplinary network of European higher education theatre and performing arts schools. EDE member institutions, although based in different countries, but are brought together by a shared interest, goal and international outlook for transforming the teaching and practice of theatre in Europe and beyond.

The EDE network collaboration encourages the development of artists and performance education in a global context by promoting the exploration of emerging scenic expressions and languages, worldwide. With this international dimension, EDE dares to question and redefine the role and relevance of the concept of theatre and pedagogies around performance in our current societies.

The priority for EDE is on “training the trainers”. Training is practice-based and uses both trans-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, where experiences in modern teaching and learning methods can be shared. Creative exchanges, transnational workshops, and joint artistic projects are facilitated by EDE to encourage the cross-pollination between different disciplines, such as performing arts, dance, film, digital arts and the humanities. This process inspires curricula that blends traditional techniques with innovative methods, relevant for addressing contemporary cultural, technological and social challenges.

EDE is driven by the curiosity to imagine the theatre of the future. In joint research and reflection, teachers, students and graduates can experience each other at eye level as explorers. Remaining open to international perspectives on theatre and performance practices, EDE aspires to develop tools for cultural and social innovation, and a place that fosters mutual understanding.
